Bangladeshi police have clashed with tens of thousands of garment workers, who make tready-made clothes from major Western brands, demanding fair wages. In kuala Lumpur, there are more than 1000 factories manufucturing clothing for brands such as H&M and Gap. Al Kamran, a senior garment union leader in Asuria said that workers are taking to the streets because their salaries are not enough to cover the rising food costs, food items such as potatoes and onions have increased more than doubled since last year, not the wages still keep the same level. In fact, if inflation and currency devaluation are taken into account, the compensation offered by manufacturers is even less than workers received in 2017.
