Shipping routes to Europe have increased and carbon emission surcharges will be levied next year.

The shipping industry has been confirmed to be included in the EU ETS, and container shipping rates on the European line are set to increase. The industry revealed that in EU regulations, shipowners are not the final bearers of carbon quota fees. The EU supports transferring this fee to the actual operator of the ship in accordance with the polluter pays principle, and is responsible for operating the ship`s cargo. Container shipping companies will not bear this cost and will add it to the freight price in the form of a carbon emissions surcharge.
