More than five thousand Philippine garment workers lose jobs as exports weaken.

The garment industry in the Philippines has seen a decline in employment, with around 5100 local factory workers laid off or furloughed since the start of the year.

The decrease is largely attributed to a drop in exports. Maritess Jocson-Agoncillo, the executive director of the Confederation of Wearable Exports of the Philippines (Conwep), revealed that nine factories have been impacted, including the country’s leading exporter of cotton textiles, Luenthai Philippines.

Luenthai operates manufacturing facilities in various locations and partners with renowned international brands such as Ralph Lauren, Dillard’s, Adidas, Uniqlo, Victoria’s Secret, Coach, and Michael Kors.
