The United Nations Environment Program released its annual global greenhouse gas emissions report. China, United States and India are still the top three emitters in the world. India`s emissions increased by 6.1% in 2023 compared with 2022, and China`s emissions increased by 5.2%.
Among individual countries, China accounts for 30% of global emissions in 2023 with 16 billion tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, the United States accounts for 11%, India accounts for 8% and the 27 European Union countries account for 6%, Russia accounts for 5%. If looking at per capital emissions, Russian ranks first with 19 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per capital, the United States ranks second with 18 tons per capital, and China ranks third with 11 tons per capital.
